Where Now For My Newsstand App Tutorial?
In the last post I showed how the Newsstand Magazine App designed worked on the iPad. All was looking good. But! then Seattleclouds came out with their own Magazine template which I have to admit, is much better than the one I was designing. So, I said to myself, why bother continuing with this template build tutorial? The answer to that questions is…. there is little reason to bother!
So with that in mind, I dropped the project.
Update 2014: I recommend using using Amber’s platform here instead of SeattleClouds.
I have since heard from quite a few readers saying they wondered where the rest of the tutorial was…. I guess now you know… it’s in bin.
Don’t be put off building a magazine app though. Take a look at the page template designed by Seattleclouds. They make it really simple and I am sure by following their some times difficult tutorial articles you should be able to get you magazine published with very few issues.
Where To Next?
So where does that leave me with my newsstand project? Well, I have a couple of options:
- I could go ahead and produce a Newsstand App using the template page mentioned.
- I could continue with this tutorial – but I don’t see the point.
- I could have a go at creating a Newsstand App using a new system.
- I could move onto something else.
I quite like the idea of pursuing the newsstand app tutorial but not using a system that is already fully documents like the Seattleclouds one. I haven’t made my mind up yet as to what I am going to do but I do fancy having a go at using the BakerFramework.
The NEW BakerFramework v 4
I have followed the Bakerframework for about 8 months or so and it got a recent upgrade to version 4 which now includes:
- Full Newsstand support
- Shelf to manage multiple publications
- Free subscriptions support
- Orientation handling improvement
On top of the already excellent work done in version 3 this make the BakerFramework one of the few open source projects that is mature enough for a non iOS coder like myself give it a shot.
While I make up my mind how to continue I would love to know what you think. What should I do?
