What Makes a Person Gravitate to Internet Marketing?
I was initially going to write my first blog post about ‘me‘, but as I got going I soon realised I was producing the standard ‘About Me‘ blog page. So if you want a little background go check out that page.
So what should I write about in this first post? Well, if you read the About NicheSpin page I mentioned that I make additional income through Internet Marketing so I guess it’s only fitting to run through some of the activities and mini business plans that I follow and how I got started.
Start trading stocks and Forex, you will make MILLIONS!!
Ah, if only it was true. Around six years ago I took an interest in the stock market. The first lot of shares that I bought were in a small company called ‘Apple Computers’ and as most people know, Apple’ share price has gone through the roof. If I still had the Apple shares today I would’ve quadrupled my money, but guess what, I don’t have any today and what’s more I even lost money on Apple shares!
I won’t go into the gory details but that got me interested in trading shares on the stock market which then led to trading Forex. Just like most people when they start to trade I paid my dues, but after some time, lots of study and perseverance, I learnt a method of trading that not only made back the money that I lost but also made me some gains.
When I look back on my trading days, one thing stands out head and shoulders above everything else that I learnt and that is .. The people making the most money were not the everyday trader like you and me. It was either the professional traders (Banks and Hedge Funds) or the Internet marketers that were selling products guaranteeing that us retail traders can make money too. In fact, we would not only make money, we could make millions upon millions!!
Dipping my toe into the Internet Marketing space
So after some time my interest in Internet marketing came to be. I looked at what these Forex and stock marketers were doing and figured hmm, I quite fancy some of that.
Now, I actually consider many of the Forex and Stock Market marketers as absolute scam artists because not only do they prey on the unsuspecting retail wannabe trader, they have zero substance behind what courses and services they are selling; but there are some good guys out there that not only know how to market their products but know a massive amount about trading. If you want some recommendations just drop me comment below this post.
So I started out in Internet marketing by reading a few e-book’s and watching a few low-priced video courses. This then led me to my first venture which was… Drumroll please.. Good old Google AdSense. I’ve got a tech background so the idea of building websites, throwing AdSense onto them and earnings some pretty easy money from Google every day sounded right up my street. I created a blog, grabbed some images, worked out how to get the AdSense code into the blog and then sat back and waited for the riches to come rolling in.
As you can properly imagine, that first website over the first three months made a very healthy three figure sum … £1.53 to be exact. Pretty grim huh, but all was not lost. After some more study, onsite SEO and a sprinkling of some link-building fairy dust for good measure, things started to pick up and to this day it is still earning me a few coffees and the odd cheeseburger and a pint of beer each month (the diet of kings).
Moving on up the Internet Marketing Ladder
After my little tinker around with AdSense I then got interested in other areas of Internet marketing such as affiliate marketing, product creation and website flipping and these are still my main areas of interest; which shouldn’t be too surprising because when you look at the scope that these three areas of Internet marketing cover, there is enough work there to keep the majority of us interested and busy for years and years.
As long as I stay focused, disciplined, leverage my time and stick to my business plan I should be able to build on my regular income. Who knows, it may get to the point where I can jack in the day job.
To quote a couple of phrases from my trading days, this is what needs to be done:
- Plan your Trade and Trade your plan.
- K.I.S.S – Keep It Simple Stupid (Well, that’s the version I like)
Going forward, I want to talk and write about what’s relevant in today’s Internet marketing landscape. The plan is to touch on subjects such as how to go about planning and implementing different Internet marketing strategies like those I have already mentioned e.g. AdSense and Affiliate Marketing. So here’s the plan, I will:
- Include tutorials in the way of step-by-step guides.
- Produce videos where appropriate to explain and demonstrate how to leverage tools of the trade.
One word of caution though!! I’m a complete novice at video. Don’t expect a Spielberg production. - Explain marketing topics and methodologies as I see them.
- Review the odd product and give my honest opinion.
- Have a good laugh, enjoy the experience of writing and producing a blog and look to share ideas with anyone willing to get involved.
So until next time, take it easy, relax and enjoy your internet marketing journey.

The process in which you started IM is not too dissimilar to mine. I started with a blog which had Adsense and some affiliate links. After seeing some income through those links, I took the wrong direction and started filling my blog with links – all in the hope someone would click them and then get a commission.
It was the wrong way to go, and I saw the error in my ways. I actually removed the site, but keeping most of the ‘good’ content – and repackaged it into an eBook – an eBook which still earns money 3 years on. So it wasn’t a complete waste of time 🙂
I really like your site Pete, and have bookmarked it for future reference and commenting!
Have a good one!
